A concept project by Hersti. Isobath is not a real centre.

The exhibition

Five rooms follow the water column from the surface to the seabed. Each room is darker than the last. A visit takes about an hour.

Isobaths around Bermuda

An isobath is a line joining points of equal depth. These are drawn every 500 metres from GEBCO data.

Bathymetry: GEBCO Bathymetric Compilation Group 2026(2026). The GEBCO_2026 Grid - a continuous terrain model for oceans and land at 15 arc-second intervals. NERC EDS British Oceanographic Data Centre NOC. doi:10.5285/4f68d5c7-45eb-f999-e063-7086abc036fa. Not for navigation.

Room 1

Sunlight

The surface and the first 200 metres. Watch red fade from the walls as you walk down.

Sunlight falling through the sea surface.

Room 2

Twilight

Light fades to a dim blue. See how animals here hide, glow and travel up at night.

Room 3

Midnight

A dark room lit only by animal light, with preserved specimens from the deep.

A preserved pelican eel, with its huge mouth and thin tail.

Room 4

The seabed

Life on the abyssal plain, where the sea pig walks on its tube feet.

A sea pig, a deep-sea sea cucumber, on the seabed.

Room 5

The lab

Our researchers work behind a glass wall. Watch them sort samples from the slope off Bermuda.

Our research

We study light in the deep water off Bermuda: how much sunlight reaches each depth, and which animals make their own.
